Joao Maldonado assassination attempt under investigation

An assassination attempt against Nicaraguan opposition figure Joao Maldonado and his wife, Nadia Robleto, has come under judicial scrutiny. The attack occurred in San Pedro de Montes de Oca when two individuals on a motorcycle approached their vehicle and opened fire with a 9 mm weapon.

During the incident, Robleto was shot near the nape of her neck, while Maldonado sustained seven hits to his chest and back. Despite his injuries, Maldonado managed to drive 1,200 meters to seek emergency medical assistance. Investigators from the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) noted that the attack took place in a crowded area, narrowly avoiding hitting pedestrians.

Recent judicial operations, including raids at a suspect's residence, have led to the seizure of mobile devices. Investigators are analyzing digital evidence from these devices to advance the case.
