Joaquim de Almeida moves from the US to Portugal

Actor Joaquim de Almeida has decided to relocate permanently to Portugal after living in the United States for nearly 50 years. During the 10th edition of the Estoril Conferences, Almeida discussed his decision, citing concerns over the political direction of the United States and the perceived conditioning of freedom. He noted that the current US government does not make sense to him and expressed a need for stronger democracies.

In addition to political concerns, environmental factors played a role in his move. Following devastating wildfires in California in 2025, the actor sold his mansion. He has since established a residence in Sintra, Portugal, where he lives with his partner, Patrícia Camacho, his children, and his grandchildren. Almeida, who built a prominent Hollywood career, continues to receive pension benefits from American actors' unions and private funds.
