Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán once dreamed of being a singer, says former partner

Lucero Sánchez López, the former partner of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has revealed that the imprisoned drug kingpin once dreamed of becoming a professional singer. According to Sánchez, Guzmán aspired to join the renowned Mexican musical group Banda El Recodo.

Sánchez, who shares a son with Guzmán, noted that a lack of education and resources in his home village of La Tuna led him away from music and into the drug trade. She stated that Guzmán’s passion for music was evident through his interest in regional Mexican groups such as Los Canelos and Los Alegres.

Guzmán is currently serving a life sentence in the United States following his 2019 conviction for drug trafficking, weapons charges, and conspiracy. The Sinaloa Cartel, which he co-founded, has reportedly fractured into competing factions following the arrests of Guzmán and co-founder Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
