Joaquín Oviedo sidelined for three months after ankle surgery
Argentine rugby player Joaquín Oviedo will be sidelined for approximately three months following surgery in Toulouse for a fractured ankle and fibula. The injury occurred while playing for his club, Perpignan, in France. Perpignan coach Laurent Labit confirmed the timeline, noting that Oviedo is expected to return to action around February 2027.
The injury impacts both club and international play. Oviedo will be unavailable for Los Pumas during the final stages of the Nations Championship in November. Additionally, there is uncertainty regarding hooker Ignacio Ruiz, who also left his recent match with an injury, though official details have not been released.
In contrast to these setbacks, Los Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi received positive news as several key players, including Juan Cruz Mallía, Pedro Rubiolo, Juan Martín González, and Thomas Gallo, have returned to competition with their respective clubs to regain match fitness.
