Joaquín Reyes discusses personal loss and Goya Awards backlash
Comedian Joaquín Reyes shared personal reflections during an interview on the program ‘Salvados’, where he discussed his family, his faith, and his professional challenges. Reyes spoke candidly about the sense of helplessness he continues to feel following the death of his parents, Jesús and Concha.
Reflecting on his career, Reyes addressed the significant backlash he received after co-hosting the 2018 Goya Awards with Ernesto Sevilla. He recalled receiving hundreds of negative messages and online polls questioning the quality of the ceremony, noting that the backlash was particularly intense because the organization intended for the gala to have a feminist focus despite being hosted by two men. Reyes admitted that the criticism was so overwhelming at the time that he chose to stay in bed for the entire day following the event.
At 52, Reyes also expressed a professional fear of experiencing a definitive creative crisis, stating, “I am afraid of running out of ideas.”
