Job Corps to continue following student lawsuit victory

The Job Corps trade skills training program will continue following a legal victory by seven students. The students, supported by the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed a lawsuit against the Department of Labor (DOL) after the administration proposed shutting down the program in mid-2025 due to cited deficits and inefficiencies.

The Management and Training Corporation (MTC), which operates the Tongue Point Job Corps center, confirmed that the program is currently enrolling students. The DOL manages approximately 100 Job Corps sites nationwide, providing vocational training and support for individuals aged 16 to 24 who face barriers to employment and housing.

Originally established in 1964 as part of the ‘war on poverty,’ the program has faced various funding challenges throughout its history.
