San Antonio commemorates port workers and union martyrs

Port workers in San Antonio, Chile, gathered to commemorate Port Workers' Day and honor the memory of four union leaders from the Sindicato de Estibadores de San Antonio. The leaders—Héctor Rojo Alfaro, Samuel Núñez González, Armando Jiménez Machuca, and Guillermo Álvarez—were killed on September 22, 1973, during the military dictatorship.

Commemorative ceremonies took place at Paseo Bellamar and the Plaza de los Mártires in the Villa Italia sector. The events brought together union leaders, current and former port workers, neighbors, and representatives from Empresa Portuaria San Antonio (EPSA) and DP World San Antonio. Participants emphasized the importance of preserving the historical legacy of these workers and defending labor rights for future generations.
