Job market trends show declining impact of online advertisements

The landscape of job recruitment is shifting as traditional online job advertisements lose their dominance. Data from Glassdoor indicates that in 2025, approximately 60 percent of successfully filled positions came from responding to online postings, a decrease from 73 percent in 2023. This decline is attributed to a cycle where high volumes of mass applications overwhelm recruiters, causing them to overlook qualified candidates and communicate with only a small fraction of applicants.

As a result, companies are increasingly turning to alternative methods such as personal recommendations, direct candidate outreach, and pre-established professional networks.

In addition to changing recruitment methods, personality is becoming a critical factor in the hiring process. Research from Express Employment Professionals and The Harris Poll shows that 91 percent of hiring managers consider personality to be as important as technical skills, and 86 percent believe a strong personality can outweigh certain gaps in professional knowledge. Employers often form impressions of candidates during informal moments, such as email communication or interactions with administrative staff, before the formal interview even begins.
