Job market trends show increased competition and longer hiring timelines

The job market is experiencing shifts in efficiency and competition. JobAssist has launched an AI-driven platform designed to consolidate the job search process by aggregating over 10 million active listings. The platform aims to reduce the friction of searching across multiple boards and repeatedly filling out application forms by validating listings daily to remove duplicates and expired posts.

In Canada, the hiring landscape has become more competitive. As of mid-2025, nationwide job openings reached 505,900, marking the lowest level since early 2018. In Ontario, the labor force has grown to 8.9 million people, leading to increased competition for fewer roles. Consequently, job seekers are facing longer timelines, with one in five unemployed Canadians spending more than 27 weeks searching for work following a layoff. To navigate these challenges, services such as career coaching through JVS Toronto are being utilized to help professionals manage longer interview stages and more rigorous employer screening processes.
