Jocelerme Privert enters 2026 Haitian presidential race
Former Haitian President Jocelerme Privert has officially filed his candidacy for the 2026 presidential elections. Running under the political grouping Ayiti Transfòme (Transform Haiti), Privert registered his name through the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) online platform.
Privert, who served as interim president from February 2016 to February 2017, stated that his candidacy is driven by the need to restore democratic and constitutional order to address national instability, institutional dysfunction, security crises, and poverty. His proposed platform includes restoring security, implementing housing and urban redevelopment programs to assist two million internally displaced persons, and creating mass employment opportunities for youth through foreign investment and economic reactivation.
Additionally, Privert emphasized the importance of rebuilding schools and universities damaged by gang violence to ensure children can return to the classroom. His candidacy follows his previous tenure as President of the National Assembly.
