Jochen Reiter to depart Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum in 2027

Dr. Jochen Reiter, director of the Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum in Düsseldorf, will step down from his position on July 1, 2027. He is set to take over the leadership of the Opel-Zoo in Kronberg im Taunus.

Reiter has led the Aquazoo since 2016. Under his management, the museum became one of Düsseldorf’s most visited institutions, recording over 450,000 visitors in 2025. He is also credited with introducing the species protection euro to support long-term partners in nature and species conservation.

Before his tenure in Düsseldorf, Reiter served as the scientific director of the Duisburg Zoo and previously worked at the Opel-Zoo between 2002 and 2006.
