Jockey Club to Exit British Racecourse Association by Year-End

The Jockey Club of Great Britain announced it will withdraw from the Racecourse Association (RCA) before the end of the current year. The decision was driven by concerns that the RCA could impede structural reforms deemed essential for the future success of British turf racing. Executive director Jim Mullen said the RCA’s recent proposals failed to address the club’s core worry that the association could continue to block necessary changes, especially given the RCA’s influence over the British Horseracing Authority.

The move, confirmed in a statement on 3 August, will see the Jockey Club align more closely with Ascot racecourse. It raises questions about the governance of British horse racing as the industry looks ahead to the 2027 season.
