Jodhpur High Court Upholds Asaram Bapu Life Sentence, Acquits Co‑Accused

The Jodhpur High Court delivered its final verdict in the Asaram Bapu case on May 27, 2026. A division bench comprising Justice Arun Monga and Justice Yogendra Kumar Purohit affirmed the life‑imprisonment sentence for Asaram Bapu on the charge of rape, while removing the gang‑rape charge. The court also upheld the conviction of Asaram’s co‑accused on the primary charge, meaning he will remain in prison.

In contrast, the court granted relief to co‑accused Shilpi and Shardchandra, overturning their earlier 20‑year sentences and acquitting them of all charges. Security was heightened around the courthouse as the verdict attracted significant public and media attention.
