Joe Abercrombie talks First Law characters joining his new grimdark team The Devils

Author Joe Abercrombie said at the Celsius 232 event that he is considering adding some of the most unsavory characters from his The First Law series to a new fantasy team called The Devils, which he describes as a grimdark equivalent of the Suicide Squad.

He highlighted figures such as The Bloody Nine, a twisted killer who became a fan favourite, and Sand dan Glotka, a torturer whose brutal methods are oddly compelling. Abercrombie singled out Casamir dan Shenkt – a feared assassin who gains super‑human speed and strength by eating flesh and was once the apprentice of the world’s greatest wizard – as a prime candidate because of his supernatural edge.

Abercrombie suggested that Shenkt’s mysterious, flesh‑eating nature would fit well within the morally ambiguous, church‑hired band of villains that populate The Devils.
