AS Roma confronts UEFA deadline, eyes player sales as Soulé turns down Saudi deal

AS Roma must meet the financial targets of its UEFA Settlement Agreement, which requires roughly €60 million in plus‑valenze by 30 June. The club has been preparing last‑minute sales, with Argentine winger Matias Soulé the most prominent prospect. Soulé rejected a lucrative Saudi offer from Al‑Ahli that could have brought €35‑40 million in transfer revenue, preferring to remain in Europe.

With the deadline looming, the Roma board, led by sporting director Tony D’Amico, is negotiating with UEFA for greater flexibility to avoid potential fines or restrictions on player registrations. The club is also exploring alternative sales, including defenders Koné and Ndicka, and relies on youth sales that have historically generated significant profit. Other transfer targets such as Mason Greenwood and contract extensions for Zeki Çelik, Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini remain under discussion.

If a satisfactory deal cannot be reached, Roma risks a heavy UEFA sanction, which could include a fine or limits on squad selection for European competitions. The club therefore prefers to avoid selling key assets below value, even if that means accepting short‑term penalties.
