Joe Biden personally responds to mother grieving son's death from cancer

Former US President Joe Biden has personally responded to a letter from Melina Newcomb, a mother from Moneta, Virginia, who shared her experience of losing her son to cancer.

Newcomb's son, Levi, passed away in 2019 at the age of 19 following a long battle with a brain tumor. Newcomb reached out to Biden following his own cancer diagnosis to share her story of loss.

According to estimates from the National Cancer Institute, approximately 626,140 Americans are expected to die from cancer in 2026. While the five-year survival rate for all cancers has reached approximately 70.5 percent, the disease continues to impact many families.
