Joe Biden sues U.S. Justice Department to release withheld interview recordings

Former President Joe Biden has filed a lawsuit against the federal government seeking to block the Justice Department from keeping unpublished audio interviews that he described as “private information.” The interviews, recorded for his 2017 memoir “Promise Me, Dad,” contain personal recollections, including discussions about the death of his son Beau Biden.

Special Counsel Robert Hur reviewed the recordings and found that they had been mishandled, but he did not recommend criminal charges. The Justice Department has accused the previous administration of attempting to conceal the audio, alleging it shows a clear decline in Biden’s mental condition. Republican members of the House and a conservative think‑tank have called for the recordings to be released, and the Justice Department announced they will be made public by June 15.

The lawsuit raises questions about the president’s fitness for office and the handling of classified documents.
