Troy Aikman addresses reported tension with Joe Buck amid ESPN contract uncertainty
Longtime Monday Night Football broadcasting partners Troy Aikman and Joe Buck have reportedly experienced tension following a disagreement regarding their respective contract statuses at ESPN. Reports indicate the two had an argument prior to the Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Rams game on October 12, stemming from the fact that Buck recently secured a six-year, $108 million extension while Aikman has yet to receive a new offer.
Addressing the reports during a radio appearance in Dallas, Aikman did not deny the tension, stating, “I don’t know that it’s hard to figure out kind of what’s happened.” He confirmed that his current contract expires after the 2026 season and that he will be a free agent in March, noting, “It just seems to be where they’re going — that they’re gonna go in a different direction because there’s been no talks, no contract negotiations.”
Aikman expressed interest in finding his next landing spot after the upcoming Super Bowl. While his future remains uncertain, potential suitors for the Hall of Fame analyst could include CBS or Amazon Prime Video. If Aikman departs, it would end the longest-running active No. 1 commentary duo in NFL history.
