Joe diGenova resigns from DOJ probe into Trump-related investigations

Veteran prosecutor Joe diGenova has resigned from his role leading a Justice Department investigation in South Florida. The probe has been examining whether federal officials conspired to target Donald Trump, including investigating whether former CIA Director John Brennan gave false testimony to Congress regarding Russian election interference.

DiGenova attributed his departure to disputes with Justice Department headquarters, stating that “some lanes got crossed” regarding administrative conduct. Reports indicate the resignation followed a tense phone call with Attorney General Todd Blanche. Tensions reportedly centered on disagreements over investigative resources, the pace of the inquiry, and diGenova’s attempt to block lawyers sent from Washington to assist the probe.

Other points of contention included diGenova’s request for a high-security SCIF at the Fort Pierce office, which Justice officials denied, directing him to use an existing FBI facility instead. The resignation introduces uncertainty into the investigation, which has seen no charges filed despite months of subpoenas and interviews.
