Joe DiMaggio’s Patek Philippe watch hits market for $1.2 million
A yellow-gold Patek Philippe reference 130 chronograph once owned by baseball legend Joe DiMaggio has been listed for sale by Wind Vintage for $1.2 million. The timepiece, which features Breguet numerals, was manufactured in 1947 and sold in December 1948.
The watch was a gift from the New York Yankees owners to DiMaggio to celebrate his third American League MVP title and the team’s 1948 World Series victory. DiMaggio reportedly wore the watch throughout his life, including during his marriage to Marilyn Monroe, until his death in 1999.
Collectors consider the piece highly significant due to its rarity and provenance. It is estimated that only approximately 180 units of this specific configuration were produced, with only about 55 appearing on the resale market over the years. The seller describes it as potentially the most significant Patek Philippe ever associated with a professional athlete.
