Joe Manganiello details health battle and memoir in new book

Actor Joe Manganiello is sharing details regarding a seven-year battle with an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder in his new memoir, ‘Bloodlines’. The illness, which caused symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and digestive issues, led to emergency surgery in 2016 to remove a large portion of his intestines.

Manganiello revealed that the medical crisis necessitated an amputation of his large intestine and the use of an ostomy bag. He noted that the health struggles played a significant role in the dissolution of his marriage to actress Sofia Vergara, stating that he felt like a burden during that period.

In recent interviews, Manganiello clarified that while his book includes necessary mentions of people from his past, including his ex-wife, his goal is to tell his story gracefully. He expressed a desire for the memoir to inspire others to have difficult conversations about health with their loved ones.
