Joe Manganiello reveals life-threatening illness and surgery

Actor Joe Manganiello has disclosed that he battled a severe, undiagnosed autoimmune condition for seven years, which necessitated an emergency surgery in 2016. During the procedure, doctors removed his entire large intestine after discovering it had become life-threateningly infected.

Manganiello revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show that he kept his health struggles private for years. He noted that while filming his role as Deathstroke in ‘Justice League’, he wore an ostomy bag under his armor. Following the surgery, he experienced significant physical challenges, including a 60-pound weight loss and a difficult recovery process to regain the ability to walk and stand.
