Joe Mazzulla ends ties with Life Surge following allegations
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has ended his relationship with Life Surge, a Christian organization, following allegations regarding the group's business practices. The organization has faced scrutiny over claims that it uses high-pressure sales tactics and religious appeals to encourage attendees to purchase expensive financial education programs, sometimes resulting in significant debt. Life Surge issued a statement expressing strong disagreement with these characterizations, asserting, “We will not apologize for who we are, what we believe, or the work we do.”
Mazzulla, who recently led the Celtics to an NBA championship, stated that he stepped away from the partnership once the allegations surfaced. He noted that while he seeks platforms to share his faith, he does not support the accused practices.
Separately, Mazzulla addressed the upcoming NBA season during the team's media day. Despite recent postseason disappointments, the Coach of the Year expressed excitement regarding the “unknown” aspects of the season, noting that while there is risk involved, there is also opportunity.
