Joe Musgrove faces minor injury setback during Padres rehab

San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove has experienced a minor setback in his recovery process following Tommy John surgery. After dealing with an elbow injury, Musgrove reported a minor back tweak that occurred following his recent rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso.

Musgrove described the issue as a minor injury, similar to a gym tweak, that caused temporary difficulty with rotation but has since cleared up. He is scheduled to participate in a bullpen session at Petco Park this weekend. The team plans to have him make another minor-league rehab start as early as next week, with the goal of having him rejoin the Padres' rotation potentially in September.

Padres manager Craig Stammen emphasized the importance of Musgrove returning to his full strength and success before determining a definitive return date to the major league roster.
