Joe Musgrove faces rehab setbacks with San Diego Padres

San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove is facing setbacks in his rehabilitation following Tommy John surgery and flexor tendon repair performed in October 2024. Despite attempting a rehab assignment, Musgrove reported that high-intensity throwing has caused issues that prevent him from playing catch for several days following outings.

Musgrove stated he is “running out of answers” regarding his recovery, noting that while he does not believe his season is over, he is struggling with range of motion and the ability to manage soreness after pitching. The team is considering various options to manage his workload, such as utilizing him as a reliever or in shorter appearances to limit pitch counts.

Padres manager Craig Stammen noted that the recovery process is being reassessed daily and emphasized that the surgery was highly invasive. Musgrove, who holds a five-year, $100 million contract extension, has been a significant part of the Padres' rotation and postseason history.
