Joe Root abolishes England Test team curfew

Newly reappointed England men’s Test captain Joe Root has announced the abolition of the team’s midnight curfew. In coordination with new head coach Stephen Fleming, Root stated that the restriction, which was implemented to address off-field behavioral issues, will be replaced by a culture of personal responsibility.

The curfew was originally introduced following several incidents involving players, including late-night altercations and unauthorized outings during bilateral series. Previous disciplinary issues involved Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson, as well as Harry Brook, which led to stricter controls on player movement and social activities.

Root emphasized that players must act as “grown adults” to manage their own conduct. He noted that the goal is to create a strong team culture where players can celebrate victories responsibly while maintaining the professionalism required to play for England.
