Joe Russo retires after 36 seasons coaching Portland High basketball

Joe Russo has announced his retirement after 36 seasons coaching the Portland High boys basketball team in Maine. Russo is one of only 10 coaches in state history to achieve at least 500 wins, finishing his career with 517 victories and six state championships.

His final season was marked by significant challenges, including the impact of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the state, which caused some players to miss school due to family safety concerns.

In separate local news, police are investigating a fight involving adults that occurred during a youth football game in Livermore Falls.
