Joe Salisbury announces retirement from professional tennis
British doubles specialist Joe Salisbury has announced his retirement from professional tennis at the age of 34. The six-time Grand Slam champion shared the decision via Instagram, stating, “I’ve decided I’m retiring from professional tennis. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and am now very happy with the decision.”
Salisbury’s career highlights include four men’s doubles Grand Slam titles and two mixed doubles titles. He achieved significant success alongside his long-term partner, American Rajeev Ram, with whom he won the 2020 Australian Open and three consecutive US Open titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The duo also reached the world No. 1 ranking in 2022 and secured ATP Tour Finals victories in 2022 and 2023.
His final professional appearance was reaching the men’s doubles semi-finals at the most recent US Open. Earlier this year, Salisbury had taken a five-month break from the tour due to anxiety. He also represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup and at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
