Joe Schmid announces conversion to Catholicism
Joe Schmid, a prominent YouTube creator known for his channel ‘Majesty of Reason’, has announced his conversion to Catholicism. Schmid, who previously identified as an agnostic and atheist, shared the news with his approximately 55,000 subscribers on August 21, 2026.
Schmid, who was raised Catholic, stated that his journey toward atheism and agnosticism during his youth was driven by the ‘problem of evolutionary animal suffering’. He noted that his transition back to the faith followed a decade-long process of studying philosophical arguments, including contingency arguments presented by philosophers such as Joshua Rasmussen and Alexander Pruss.
His YouTube content has primarily focused on the philosophy of religion, metaphysics, metaethics, and epistemology, often featuring debates with academic and religious figures. While his channel was previously used to critique arguments for the existence of God, he has now declared, ‘God exists. Christ is the Lord and He established the Catholic Church’.
