Joe Speedboot leads nominations for Gouden Kalveren awards

Nominations for the Gouden Kalveren, the premier Dutch film awards, have been announced during the 46th edition of the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht. The film ‘Joe Speedboot’, based on the novel by Tommy Wieringa, is the leading contender with nine nominations, including Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. Actor Daan Buringa is also nominated for Best Lead Actor for his role in the film.

Other major contenders include ‘Truly Naked’ with seven nominations and ‘Downtown’ with five. In the Best Feature Film category, ‘Joe Speedboot’ competes against ‘Truly Naked’, ‘A Family’, ‘Donkey Days’, and ‘Whitetail’. Notably, director Sam de Jong (‘Joe Speedboot’) and Michiel van Erp (‘Downtown’) were not nominated for Best Director; that category features Muriel d’Ansembourg, Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito, and Amira Duynhouwer.

In the television categories, the series ‘Basta’, a biography of Marco van Basten, leads with four nominations for Best Drama Series, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, and Best Lead Actor. The ‘Voor de meisjes’ film has already secured the Audience Award. The winners will be announced during a gala at the Stadsschouwburg in Utrecht.
