Joe Thompson alleges billions in Medicaid fraud in Minnesota

Former acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, Joe Thompson, has addressed his resignation and ongoing concerns regarding large-scale fraud within the state. Thompson stated his January resignation was due to disagreements with the Trump administration regarding an investigation into the killing of a protester by an ICE agent.

Thompson also asserted that there was over $9 billion in Medicaid fraud during the administration of Governor Tim Walz. He defended his office's decision to pursue cases involving Somali defendants, attributing the frequency of such cases to cultural differences in government loyalty and the lack of a functioning government in Somalia.

Separate allegations highlight the ‘Feeding Our Future’ scandal, a COVID-era fraud involving approximately $250 million in taxpayer funds intended for meal programs. The scheme involved defendants billing for millions of meals that were never delivered. Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding over $100 million in potential fraud within state autism therapy programs.
