Joel Amartey to join Carlton from Sydney Swans

Sydney Swans forward Joel Amartey is set to join Carlton as an unrestricted free agent. The 27-year-old has reportedly accepted a five-year deal with the Blues, valued at approximately $1 million per season.

Amartey, who has played 76 games since his 2020 debut, has struggled with injury, most recently suffering a partial Achilles tear in June. His absence allowed other forwards, such as Hayden McLean and Logan McDonald, to secure more consistent roles in the Swans' lineup. Amartey’s most productive season came in 2024, when he played 25 games and recorded a career-high nine-goal match.

At Carlton, Amartey will reunite with former teammates Will Hayward and Ollie Florent. His departure comes as the Sydney Swans evaluate the futures of several other players, including Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, and Nick Blakey.
