Joel Rodrigues launches Piauí gubernatorial campaign

Joel Rodrigues, the Progressistas candidate for Governor of Piauí, has officially launched his campaign with events in Teresina. Accompanied by Senator Ciro Nogueira, Rodrigues visited local markets and participated in religious activities marking the 174th anniversary of the capital. His campaign platform focuses on health, security, water supply, and job creation.

As part of his platform, Rodrigues proposed a gradual reduction of the ICMS (state tax on goods and services) leading up to the national tax reform transition period of 2029–2032. He criticized current Governor Rafael Fonteles, arguing that the tax rate has increased from 18% in 2022 to 22.5% and contesting the Governor's claims regarding the immediate elimination of the tax. To offset potential revenue losses from tax cuts, Rodrigues suggested administrative reforms and prioritizing essential services over communication spending.
