Joelma modifies lyrics of ‘Príncipe Encantado’ for religious reasons
Brazilian singer Joelma has modified the lyrics of her hit song ‘Príncipe Encantado’, originally released in 2002 with Banda Calypso, to align with her current religious convictions.
Composer Beto Caju confirmed that the artist requested permission from the original songwriters, himself and Marquinhos Maraial, to alter specific verses. The changes involve removing references to a ‘mesa de quijá’ (divination table) and playing cards, as the singer no longer felt comfortable performing those elements due to her faith.
The decision gained renewed attention following a recent collaboration with singer Rey Vaqueiro. While the original track was a narrative about a woman seeking answers in a relationship, the updated version reflects Joelma’s personal spiritual journey.
