Joetsu City and INPEX sign forest J-credit agreement
Joetsu City and the energy development company INPEX have signed a partnership agreement regarding forest-derived J-credits. This system allows for the trading of carbon dioxide emission and absorption amounts.
Under the agreement, Joetsu City will receive support from INPEX for system design, certification procedures, and securing credit buyers. The city aims to sell 5,700 tons of J-credits over the next eight years, focusing on 130 hectares of city-managed forests in the Shozenji and Itakura districts. The revenue generated will be used to promote sustainable forest maintenance and secure workers for the forestry industry.
