Joey BPR, vocalist of Bumiputra Rockers, passes away

Johari Mat Rozekhi, the vocalist of the rock group Bumiputra Rockers (BPR) known as Joey BPR, passed away on August 29, 2026, at 8:11 AM at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

His death followed a performance at Istana Budaya the previous night. Reports indicate that Joey collapsed after performing two songs and was subsequently taken to the hospital by ambulance. His wife, Zarinah Zainal, confirmed the news via social media, noting that doctors identified complications including heart blockage and bleeding.

Joey BPR was a well-known figure in the Malaysian music industry, recognized for hits such as ‘Aku Hanya Serangga’.
