Joey King and LaKeith Stanfield to star in sci-fi comedy Safe Space

Actors Joey King and LaKeith Stanfield are set to lead the upcoming science fiction romantic comedy, Safe Space. Directed by Gillian Wallace Horvat, the film follows Sherrie, an intelligent scientist played by King, who enters a highly toxic relationship with a handsome alien portrayed by Stanfield following a difficult breakup.

The project is described as a satirical exploration of love, sex, and human connection within a society increasingly reliant on digital screens. Horvat, an Independent Spirit Award nominee, expressed excitement regarding the chemistry between the two leads.

International sales for the film are being launched at the American Film Market by the French company Lucky Number, in partnership with CAA Media Finance and WME Independent. Production is currently in the financing stage, with filming scheduled to begin in the United States during the second quarter of 2027.
