Joey Porter Jr. ruled out for Steelers vs. Patriots due to injury
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots due to a back injury. After being listed as a limited participant on Wednesday with a status of conditioning rather than injury, Porter left Thursday’s practice early while accompanied by a trainer.
The injury comes amid ongoing contract negotiations, as the fourth-year defender seeks a new deal before entering free agency in 2027. While the Steelers have previously noted his absence was related to a ramp-up process following his time on the physically unable to perform list, the recurrence of the back ailment has complicated his availability.
Speculation regarding Porter’s future has also linked him to the Detroit Lions. NFL insiders have noted that a trade could be a logical move for Detroit to bolster their secondary, though no active movement has been reported at this time.
