Joey Porter Jr. denies trade rumors amid injury and contract dispute

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has addressed his absence from the first two games of the season, citing a combination of a lingering back injury and conditioning issues. During a recent media availability, Porter stated he “definitely” intends to play this season but remained noncommittal regarding his availability for the upcoming Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The player's physical status comes amid stalled contract negotiations. Porter is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is reportedly seeking a significant raise to become one of the highest-paid players at his position. While some reports suggested a potential trade request, Porter denied these claims, calling the contract situation “old news” and stating his focus is on returning to 100 percent health.

Steelers management has expressed support for the player, though the team has maintained a policy of not resuming contract extension talks during the season. Porter has recently participated in full practice sessions, signaling progress in his recovery and conditioning.
