Dallas Cowboys acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from Pittsburgh Steelers
The Dallas Cowboys have acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a trade aimed at bolstering an injury-depleted secondary. In exchange for the 26-year-old, Dallas is sending Pittsburgh a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round selection.
The move follows a prolonged contract standoff between Porter and the Steelers, as well as a back injury that kept him inactive for the first three games of the season. The trade reportedly materialized quickly after a breakdown in trust during a recent practice session where Porter's injury status was questioned.
Porter, a former second-round pick from Penn State, has recorded three interceptions and 31 passes defended in his career. He has already begun practicing with the Cowboys and may be available for their upcoming game against the Houston Texans. The acquisition addresses critical depth issues in Dallas following injuries to players like P. J. Locke and Jalen Thompson.
