Joey Wong discusses 24 years of single life and retirement
Former actress Joey Wong has broken her long silence in a rare interview with comedian Li Dan on the podcast ‘Mutual Follow’. During the discussion, Wong revealed that she has remained single for 24 years following her 2002 breakup with singer Chyi Chin, describing their 15-year relationship as a ‘debt of fate’ that has since been repaid.
Wong addressed her decision to leave the entertainment industry, clarifying that it was a natural life choice rather than a result of heartbreak. She also shared nostalgic memories of filming ‘A Chinese Ghost Story’, specifically highlighting the mentorship and kindness shown to her by the late Leslie Cheung, who helped her overcome language barriers and technical difficulties on set.
Now living in Canada and focusing on promoting traditional Chinese medicine through her moxibustion studio, Wong expressed a philosophical outlook on life and love. She noted that while she values pure love, she avoids ‘attachment’ due to its association with jealousy and possession. She also responded to public scrutiny regarding her aging, noting that many people still hold onto her image from when she was 19.
