Jogger and Dog Escape Bear Attack at Idaho's Henrys Lake State Park
A bear attacked a man jogging with his dog on the Aspen Loop Trail at Henrys Lake State Park in Idaho. The jogger sustained injuries but was able to walk out of the area with his dog, which was unharmed. He was later transported to Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg for treatment.
Idaho Fish and Game and Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene, used a drone to search the area and found no bears nearby. The trail system will remain closed for a week, and officials said no further action is planned. They reminded the public that bear encounters are rare but possible in the region and advised travelers to move in groups, make noise, avoid approaching bears, carry bear spray, and stay clear of trails at dawn, dusk or night.
The incident highlights safety concerns for outdoor recreation in Idaho’s bear country and prompts temporary restrictions at the park while authorities monitor the situation.
