Vuelta a Guatemala 2026: José Canastuj takes general classification lead

Guatemalan cyclist José David Canastuj, representing ECA Electricidad, has taken the overall lead in the 65th Vuelta Ciclística Internacional a Guatemala. After finishing fourth in the second stage—a 212-kilometer route from Morales to San Antonio La Paz—Canastuj holds a narrow five-second advantage over Colombian rider Cristian David Rico of the NU Colombia team.

The competition began with Colombian Johan Steven Rubio winning the inaugural 215.4-kilometer stage in Puerto Barrios. However, the second stage saw Rico claim the stage victory, allowing Canastuj to ascend to the top of the general classification.

The third stage is scheduled to cover approximately 196.6 kilometers, traveling from Antigua Guatemala to Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango. This leg will take the peloton through the southern coast, including Escuintla and Retalhuleu, and features five intermediate prizes, including two mountain climbs and three sprints.
