Johan Vásquez nearly signed with AS Roma before transfer collapsed

Mexican defender Johan Vásquez narrowly missed a transfer to AS Roma during the recent summer transfer window. Despite advanced negotiations following his performance in the 2026 World Cup, the deal collapsed due to administrative changes within the Roma management, specifically the transition from sporting director Frederic Massara to Tony D'Amico.

In addition to Roma, several other major European clubs expressed interest in the Genoa captain, including Juventus, Atlético de Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Besiktas. While some clubs engaged in discussions, no formal offers progressed to a completed signing.

Vásquez remains with Genoa, where he serves as a key player and captain. He is currently under contract until mid-2028 and continues to compete in Serie A.
