Johann Lafer battles non‑Hodgkin lymphoma, shares treatment journey

Johann Lafer, a 68‑year‑old German television chef, was diagnosed with a low‑grade, non‑aggressive form of non‑Hodgkin lymphoma after a routine check during a fasting cure three years ago.

He has completed six cycles of chemotherapy, which caused significant weight loss and the disappearance of his trademark mustache. During treatment he also temporarily lost his sense of taste, a key tool for his profession, but the taste sensation has since returned.

Lafer made his diagnosis public in May 2026 via social media and discussed how the illness has altered his daily life and work habits. Despite the health challenges, he continues to work in the kitchen and appears at public events.
