Johann Lafer reports improvement in battle against lymphoma

Television chef Johann Lafer has provided an update on his health following his diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Speaking on the NDR talk show ‘Das! Rote Sofa’, the 69-year-old stated that he feels he is on the desired path to recovery, noting, ‘I feel better. I am on the way that one wishes when you have something like this.’

Lafer, who went public with his illness in May, has been undergoing chemotherapy. He noted that while the cancer is not curable, it can be contained. The treatment has had significant physical and psychological effects, including weight loss and a temporary loss of taste.

Reflecting on the experience, Lafer described himself as becoming much more thoughtful and grateful. He expressed deep appreciation for medical professionals, whom he called ‘the heroes of the present,’ and thanked supporters for their well-wishes. He also addressed criticisms regarding his decision to continue working during his illness, stating that staying active helped him maintain the mental strength necessary to process his situation.
