Johann Lafer returns to television for cancer charity special

Chef Johann Lafer will return to the television program ‘Der Quiz-Champion’ as an expert for a special charity episode on ZDF. The event aims to raise up to 100,000 euros for the Deutsche Krebshilfe.

Lafer, an Austrian chef, has a personal connection to the cause. He previously disclosed that he is battling a non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which he described as an indolent, low-malignancy, and non-aggressive form of cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy in early 2026 due to a decline in his condition, Lafer has dealt with side effects including the loss of his sense of taste.

In the upcoming special, Lafer will serve as an expert on nutrition, alongside other experts such as Elton for film and television and Katrin Bauerfeind for current affairs. The program will be hosted by Johannes B. Kerner.
