Johann Wadephul visits Kyiv to reaffirm German support for Ukraine FAST-MOVING

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv via special train for an unannounced solidarity visit ahead of Ukraine's 35th Independence Day. During his visit, Wadephul condemned the increasing Russian drone and missile strikes, accusing Moscow of the “indiscriminate murder of civilians” and the deliberate destruction of energy infrastructure to break Ukrainian willpower.

Wadephul noted that July and August were the deadliest months for Ukrainian civilians in over four years, stating that Russia has never previously fired more missiles at its neighbor. He reaffirmed Germany's commitment to providing continued military and financial support, noting that Germany is the leading investor in such aid. He expressed hope that sustained military pressure would eventually move Russia toward peace negotiations.

The visit follows a recent Russian attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, which resulted in 16 deaths and over 130 injuries. Wadephul also characterized the increasing totalitarianism and propaganda within Russia as signs of the regime's weakness.
