Johannes Kaiser claims media coverage of La Cofradía controversy is political
Chilean lawmaker Johannes Kaiser has suggested that the intense media coverage surrounding a controversial video involving Ítalo Omegna and members of the streaming group ‘La Cofradía’ may have underlying political motivations.
The controversy stems from a recording released in late July, in which panelists made jokes regarding autism and child abuse. The backlash led the National Autism Federation (Fenaut) to file a formal complaint with the Public Ministry. In response, Omegna issued an apology, characterizing his remarks as part of a specific style of humor and expressing a willingness to cooperate with legal investigations.
During an interview on the digital program ‘Discrepemos’, Kaiser questioned why comments made by an individual during an informal gathering became a national news priority. He argued that the scale of the media response lacked sense and suggested the situation could have been used to divert attention from other matters, stating, “I see the intention behind it... it is an essentially political issue.” Kaiser also noted that his own National Libertarian Party is not immune to future controversies involving its members.
