Johannes Kaiser pressures President Kast on pardons and Dominga project
Johannes Kaiser, president of the Libertarian National Party (PNL), has issued two major demands to President José Antonio Kast regarding legislative and administrative actions in Chile.
First, Kaiser called for the President to sponsor a general pardon bill for security forces convicted of crimes related to the 2019 social unrest. Speaking at a memorial for Carabineros officers, Kaiser argued that political support for these officials must move beyond public statements toward concrete legislative measures. This request follows the recent granting of parole to former Carabineros captain Patricio Maturana, though Kaiser maintains that judicial parole does not substitute for a broader political pardon.
Second, the PNL is pressuring the administration to expedite the review of the Dominga mining-port project. Kaiser and other party leaders, including Deputy Erich Grohs, urged Kast to fulfill campaign commitments by overcoming the project's current environmental rejection. They characterized the delays as being driven by “ideological” criteria and called on the Executive to utilize administrative alternatives to restart the project, which supporters view as a vital solution for regional employment.
